Description

Tom Corbett – Space Cadet              Comics Lot
Writer: Bill Spangler
Artist: Fred Perry
Inker: Terry Pallot
Letterer: Dan Nakrosis
Editors: Chris Ulm, Mickie Villa & Dan Danko
All Covers by: Jason Waltrip

Tom Corbett is the main character in a series of Tom Corbett – Space Cadet stories that were depicted in television, radio, books, comic books, comic strips, and other media in the 1950s. The stories followed the adventures of Corbett, Astro, and Roger Manning (originally; later, T.J. Thistle), cadets at the Space Academy as they train to become members of the Solar Guard. The action takes place at the Academy in classrooms and bunkrooms, aboard their training ship the rocket cruiser Polaris, and on alien worlds, both within the solar system and in orbit around nearby stars.

Tom Corbett – Space Cadet is a science fiction classic about human space explorers who patrol the local solar system; humans who are members of an inter-planetary alliance whose mission is to maintain the freedom of space and promote peace in the universe. Eternity Comics brought Tom Corbett back from limbo in the early 90s with this series and bringing with it changes to reflect contemporary moods and tastes: high-tech designs, stylish fashions, a new supporting cast of characters, and all of the above rendered with a slight manga flare.

Before Star Fleet…there was the Solar Guard! Before Captain James T. Kirk…there was Tom Corbett, Space Cadet! Interstellar Space Adventures all presented in Glorious Black & White. Awesome!!

Story/Spoilers
In issue #1, The Space Cadets encounter an immense being flying through space. It is on a crash course for Earth and won’t communicate with anyone except for Tom. It is up to the Space Cadets to convince the monstrosity to change course.

Next in issue #2, The Space Cadets are playing a virtual reality simulator game when they finally confront Tom about why he’s been distant lately. He explains that the location of his long-lost father has recently popped up, and that he is anxious since he is supposed to meet him soon as part of a diplomacy mission. Tom is reunited with his father, but the time passed has greatly changed the man…

Next in issue #3, While catching up, Tom’s father reveals what originally happened to him that caused their separation. Later, Tom expresses to his friends that he is worried that his father is up to something sinister and is unsure of what to do. Suddenly, things go awry and negotiations between the two parties get suspended. The space cadets and their leadership are then taken hostage by none other than Tom’s father…

Finally in issue #4, The Space Cadets are introduced to a new villain… the captain of a renegade ship of humans. After an argument with him, they are locked up in secured cabins to await their fates. A rogue scientist on the ship manages to free them in exchange for a ride off the ship with them. Now that the lines are drawn, how will things turn out as both parties close in on their objective?
