Creature from the Black Lagoon is a 1954 American black-and-white 3D monster horror film produced by William Alland and directed by Jack Arnold, from a screenplay by Harry Essex and Arthur Ross and a story by Maurice Zimm. It stars Richard Carlson, Julia Adams, Richard Denning, Antonio Moreno, Nestor Paiva, and Whit Bissell. The film’s plot follows a group of scientists who encounter a piscine amphibious humanoid in the waters of the Amazon; the Creature, also known as the Gill-man, was played by Ben Chapman on land and by Ricou Browning underwater. Produced and distributed by Universal-International, Creature from the Black Lagoon premiered in Detroit on February 12, 1954.
Image Comics brings the classic Universal Monster: Creature from the Black Lagoon to comics with this comic series inspired by the 1954 film that tells a brand new officially licensed story taking place years after the events of the 1954 movie.
Story/Spoilers:
In issue #1A, Years after the events of the original film, journalist Kate Marsden hunts for a notorious serial killer in the heart of the Amazon. Hot on the trail of this madman, she soon encounters an unexpected new threat – but is it friend or foe? Or is it simply…The Creature From The Black Lagoon?
Next in issue #2A, Kate Marsden has miraculously survived, but just who – or what – is the creature that she saw? As Doctor Thompson and Kate work to discover the truth, they come face to face with an elusive serial killer…who’s also the man that Kate has dedicated her life to destroying.
Next in issue #3A, Kate’s quest for revenge creates unexpected dangers as she closes in on the serial killer known as Collier and discovers their surprising connection to the creature that dwells within the rainforest.
