Description

Unknown Worlds of Science Fiction #2                                                         Magazine
Cover by: Mike Kaluta
Inside cover art by: Alex Nino

The 1975 follow-up to Marvel Comics’ ill-fated Worlds Unknown, Unknown Worlds of Science Fiction picked up where its predecessor left off. Packaged in the much more flattering $1 black and white magazine format, the bimonthly publication contained a number of self contained stories (approximately 10 per issue) revolving around one central theme: science fiction. Each issue was crafted by some of the genre’s greatest writers. Names like Harlan Ellison, Roger Zelazny and “Chip” Delany frequented the pages within.

While Magazine Management Co. published the periodical, the “Stan Lee presents:” found on the book’s title page was a telling sign as to the true backer behind the project. Losing out to the spandex clad, super-hero saturated market, some of the greatest names to come out of the House of Ideas—i.e. John Romita, Chris Claremont and Tony Isabella—lent their talent’s to the publication.

Unknown Worlds of Science Fiction #2 contains:
“The Shape Of Things That Came” Page 4
Writer: Roy Thomas

Roy Thomas’ erudite editorial that answers the musical question: What happened to the Harlan Ellison story this issue, anyhow?
——————————————————————————–

“Through a Glass Slowly: Prologue” Page 5
Writer: Tony Isabella
Artist: Frank Brunner
Inker: Klaus Janson

The man wanted surcease of sorrow. Could he find it in the strange flickering lights which emerged from those eerie prisms? Tony Isabella and Frank Brunner again explore the awesome “Slow Glass” concept created by Bob Shaw.
——————————————————————————–

“War Toy” Page 8
Writer: Tony Isabella
Artist: George Pérez
Inker: Rico Rival

What do you do with a death-dealing robot – after it’s won the war you built it to win? Do you give it a medal – or scrap it? A thinking man’s tale by Tony Isabella and George Perez.
——————————————————————————–

“There Are No Yesterdays!” Page 22
Interviewer: Denny’ O’Neil
Interviewee: Alfred Bester
Artist: Rick Bryant

So says Alfred Bester, Hugo-winning author of The Demolished Man, in this issue’s penetrating interview.
——————————————————————————–

“Adam… And No Eve” Page 26
Writer: Denny’ O’Neil
Artist: Frank Robbins
Inker: Jim Mooney

The Earth was a ravaged, dying planet. And the man who had destroyed it would do anything to regenerate it. His only problem: No Women. Alfred Bester’s SF masterpiece, adapted by Denny O’Neil and Frank Robbins.
