Venom, or the Venom Symbiote, is a character appearing in comic books published by Marvel Comics, commonly in association with Spider-Man. Venom made his first appearance in The Amazing Spider-Man #300 (May 1988). Venom was originally conceived as a supervillain but has since become more of an antihero. Venom is a Symbiote, a sentient alien, with a gooey, almost liquid-like form. As with real-world symbiotes, it requires a host, usually human, to bond with for its survival. After bonding, the Symbiote endows its enhanced powers upon the host. When the Venom Symbiote bonds with a human, that new dual-life form refers to itself as “Venom”. The Venom Symbiote’s first known host was Spider-Man, who eventually separated himself from the creature when he discovered its true nature. In Marvel Superheroes Secret Wars, a being known as The Beyonder gave Spider-Man a prize of sorts, in what appeared to be an extraordinary black costume. Eventually, this costume was revealed as an alien symbiote, who sought to permanently bond with Spider-Man. When Spider-Man rejected it, the symbiote turned malevolent and sought out another. The Symbiote went on to merge with other hosts, most notably Eddie Brock, its second and most infamous host, with whom it first became Venom and one of Spider-Man’s deadliest enemy. According to S.H.I.E.L.D., it is considered one of the greatest threats to humanity, alongside Magneto, Doctor Doom, and Red Skull.
Now, Marvel Comics Presents, Venom: Separation Anxiety. Taking place following the events of Spider-Man #55, when Eddie Brock was separated from the symbiotic alien that transforms him into Venom. Eddie Brock and the alien parasite are now held at very distant ultrahigh-security containment facilities from one another. A well-coordinated assault by Venom’s five spawns created by the Life Foundation cause havoc and bust Eddie out. The five spawn symbiotes were left for dead at the Life Foundation in Venom: Lethal Protector #5, but have now returned to free Brock because they want him to teach them how to control their symbiotes. Meanwhile, the Venom symbiote also breaks free and escapes. It travels from host to host trying to find Eddie and re-bond with him. …And we know that if the black symbiote does re-bond with Brock, …Venom will be reborn!
Story/Spoilers
In issue #1, “Apart”, Eddie Brock has been separated from the Venom symbiote and is being held captive in a government lab miles away from it. How will he reunite with his symbiote? Will a certain group of other symbiotes come to help him, or harm him? And most importantly, does Eddie even want the symbiote back?
Featuring an embossed cover of Ron Randall art! Awesome!!
Next in issue #2, “Lost Souls”, The Five Symbiotes have Eddie Brock in right where they want him. Now if he just would cooperate with them then things would go a lot smoother for everyone. They need Eddie to teach them how to control their symbiotes, but he no longer wants anything to do with the alien creatures. That’s going to be a problem however, because Eddie’s symbiote doesn’t want to be alone, and will do whatever it takes to reunite with its host!
Next in issue #3, “Parting is Such Sweet Sorrow”, Eddie Brock’s symbiote is loose! Armed forces are pursuing the alien as it heads towards its beloved host, but how dangerous can a lone symbiote be? And someone is targeting the Five Symbiotes!
Finally in issue #4, “Reunion”, It all comes down to this. Two symbiotes down, and Eddie Brock is to blame. Will the remaining three symbiotes allow Eddie to clear his name? And if not, will Eddie’s symbiote be enough to turn the tide in his favor?
