Expanding on John Byrne’s New Vision of Superman!
The “World of Metropolis” is one of three interlocking mini-series created to flesh out John Byrne’s new vision of Superman (laid down in the Man of Steel mini-series). This series concludes the trilogy written by John Byrne to provide the new “official” backstory for the post-Crisis Superman with a focus on the pre-Superman exploits of Perry White, Lois Lane, Clark Kent and Jimmy Olsen. The other series in the trilogy are “World of Krypton” and “World of Smallville.”

The World of Metropolis will show you the way around one of the most fascinating cities in the world…and into the souls of some of its most intriguing citizens. World of Metropolis proved that sometimes the most interesting stories are those found in the lives of “ordinary people” as World of Metropolis moves the action away from Superman to concentrate on the other figures in Metropolis’ ongoing drama. It tells, for instance, of how Perry White nearly lost his wife to Lex Luthor, and how he reclaimed the Daily Planet when Lex wanted to turn it into a TV station. This series also sheds new light on how Lois Lane achieved her dream of becoming a reporter.

Story/Spoilers
In issue #1, ”A Reporter’s Story”, Flashback to Perry White’s days as a reporter and his marriage to Alice Spencer. Stories from Perry White’s youth are recounted as we look at his days as a reporter and his marriage! Two of the most influential men in Superman’s life…two men on the opposite ends of the scale of morality…two men who share a terrible secret just as they share their lives in the World of Metropolis. The first of these men is Perry White, hard-hitting editor of The Daily Planet, whose connection to the city his newspaper serves is as deep as his heart. The other is Lex Luthor, whose twisted genius and power have brought him to the pinnacle of power over Metropolis. Each has a dream for the city, one to see it grow into a safe and thriving place for its citizens, the other to hold it in his ruthless grasp. Discover what secret Perry White and Lex Luthor share…a secret that affects every man, woman and child who inhabit The World of Metropolis.

Next in issue #2, “How I Spent My Summer Vacation”, Lois Lane is sweet sixteen, maybe too sweet to stand up to the evil machinations of millionaire Lex Luthor or to convince Daily Planet editor Perry White to hire her as a reporter. But one way or another a very young Lois gets her first scoop.

Next in issue #3, ”Mr. Kent Goes To Metropolis!”, What was Clark Kent’s life like before he decided to don the familiar red and blue uniform of Superman? The story is told here duringClark’s first days in Metropolis.

Finally in issue #4, “Friends in Need”, Ever wonder what created the friendship between Superman and Jimmy Olsen? And how and why Jimmy invented the signal watch. Think about it… the origin tale of Jimmy’s signal watch. A conclusion doesn’t get any cooler than that!!
